
Women's Title Race Still On
The Mainland Women's Premier League title is still on after Cashmere Technical waited until added time before coming from behind against Halswell to win 2 - 1, while leaders Coastal Spirit were untroubled to defeat Waimakariri 6 - 1, with Universities having the bye. With three rounds remaining Coastal now have 22 points, two ahead of Technical with Waimakariri on 14, Universities 8 and Halswell 3. Waimakariri and Universities still have a game in hand.
Halswell looked to be heading for a major upset when they took an early lead against Technical when Emily Cooper scored with her shot sneeking inside the post. Halswell then defending well to keep scoreless at the break. The longer the game went on the pressure mounted on Technical as the Hawks keeper, Morgan Ashworth stopped everything that was hit her way.
Into the final minutes of normal time Technical saw severals shot go wide of the goal as they were camped on the Halswell line. Emma Kench final scored in the first minutes of added time. From the restart Technical went back on attack and Lee Maoate-Cox hit an unstoppable shot that cruelly denied Halswell what would have been a deserved point.
Some quality finishing saw Coastal come out on top of Waimak. Lauren Dabner opened the scoring within the first quarter hour with Cody Taylor doubling the lead just before the break. Mel Cameron increased Coastal's lead early in the second half. Taylor then added her second goal of the game before Chloe Jones headed home from a corner, this was the 100th league goal this season. In the final minutes Taylor completed her third hat-trick of the season before Jayda Stewarts scored a late consolation to the home side.
FC Increase Lead In Qualifying League
FC Twenty11 increased their lead in the Mainland Premier Qualifying League when they accounted for Selwyn 3 - 2 as Universities had the bye. FC now have 16 points, Selwyn 9 and Universities 3.
FC lead 2 - 1 at the break with Conor Clarke scoring twice for FC with their other goal going to Benji Lapslie, with Declan Hickford claiming a brace for Selwyn.
Halswell Increase Lead In Championship League
Halswell increased their lead at the top of the Canterbury Championship League when they defeated Christchurch United 2 - 1 while their closes rival Western, were upset by Waimakariri by the same score line. In the other game neigbours Burwood and Parklands played out a 1 - all result. Halswell now have 28 points, five clear of Western with Parklands in third place on 16. Waimak climb off the bottom of the table with 13 points, with ChCh United and Burwood both on 12.
