A warm welcome to English Park for the 2025 Morrison’s Mitsubishi Rita Fitzpatrick and English Cup Finals. Double header finals are always a huge occasion, and this is looking like no exception, especially when there is a combined 152 years of these cups being battled for. Over the years, Cashmere Technical have won the Rita Fitzpatrick 4 times and the English Cup an impressive 20 times (including the 13 titles as Christchurch Technical). Nomads have been successful 11 times in the English Cup, having last won in 2008, with most of their victories coming in the early 1920s and 1960s. Universities will be looking to join the list of clubs that have won one of these competitions, and, along with the other competing clubs, we wish them the best of luck.

May the best teams win. And finally, a shout-out to Morrison Mitsubishi – our naming rights sponsor for our cup competitions. Thank you for your continued, long-term support of the “Beautiful Game” in our region.

HEAD COACH: CASHMERE TECHNICAL
Shane Verma

On behalf of the players and staff, I would like to welcome everyone to English Park for the Reta Fitzpatrick Cup Final. To reach the final, has taken a big squad effort, with over 34 players playing for the side across three competitions.

We know it will take a strong performance to break down a well organised university side, and we know that Elliot and Blake will have their side fully prepared for another great game of football between these sides.

This day is made even more special, with our men’s team playing in the English Cup Final, and we wish the Dan and the team the best of luck for their game.

We would like to thank our sponsors, friends, family, club staff and board for all their support this year, helping us have another great season, and we can’t wait to hear you all cheering us on for a final game this year.

HEAD COACH: UC FOOTBALL
Elliot Anderson-Evans

As coaches of the Universities of Canterbury Women’s Football team, we are looking forward to lining up against Cashmere Technical in this year’s Reta Fitzpatrick Cup final. Both sides have shown consistency throughout the season, and we expect a tight contest on match day.

Our focus in the lead-up has been on the fundamentals, clean ball circulation, organised pressing and effective set-pieces. We’ve balanced on-field repetition with a strong training block to ensure everyone understands their roles, especially when the pressure is on. That attention to detail has helped us build confidence and trust across the squad.

Cashmere Technical are a well-structured side. Their midfield moves the ball neatly, and their wide players like to push forward, so we’ll need to stay compact and work as a unit to manage those wide areas. They’ve earned their place in the final, and we respect the work they’ve put in.

On Sunday, key moments will come down to winning the second ball, dealing with quick transitions and taking our chances when they arise. We know there will be physical challenges and shifts in momentum, but we’ve prepared for all scenarios.

I trust our group to stick to the plan, remain composed and support each other throughout the match. If we bring our best game and maintain our standards, we’ll give ourselves every chance to lift the cup.

Lastly, to our girls and especially those of us playing their last game in the Maroon and gold, make sure to enjoy the moment, and we are all hoping to send you off on a high!

SEMI FINAL ACTION

2025 Teams

There were 9 teams from 11 clubs who entered into the Reta Fitzpatrick Cup this year.

The Reta Fitzpatrick Cup

Named after the late Reta Fitzpatrick who was one of the early pioneers for the women's game in Canterbury.

Reta, or "Mrs Fitz's" as known and called by all the players, was a manageress (called the team chaperone in the 70's) for many seasons at club level for Rangers (now Coastal Spirit). She also occupied this role for Canterbury from 1976 until 1992. Outside of this responsibility she also filled many other roles on the committee at Rangers as well as serving on the Canterbury Women's Football Association - (CWFA) for three decades and was made a life member at both Rangers and the CWFA.

The Canterbury Women's Football Knockout Cup was first contested in 1974 when the top women's clubs included the likes of Halswell, New Brighton, Rangers and Nomads. Halswell went on to win the very first Cup competition in 1974. In 2005 the Knock Out Cup was renamed The Reta Fitzpatrick Cup with Reta on hand to hand over the trophy for the first time to inaugural winners New Brighton.  This was somewhat fitting as the New Brighton coach was Rowena Fulham, who had played at Rangers and Canterbury for a number of season's when Reta was the manager.

It is testament to Reta's legacy that the Cup remains a much sort after trophy on the Canterbury sporting landscape - and we pay homage to the numerous hours of volunteer support Reta gave to football within the region.
