
There were no upsets in Round 1 of the Chatham Cup around the Mainland Region.
Current Cup holders Cashmere Technical were too strong for follow Southern League side Nomads when winning 6 - 0. Nomads held technical back for 24 minutes before Jacob Richards scored the first of his three goals, quickly followed by a second from Lyle Matthysen. Richards then completed his hat-trick in the space of two minutes just before the break. Garbhan Coughlan extended the lead in the 48th minute with a quality run and finish. Minutes later, Nomads conceded an own goal.
The tie between previous cup holders Christchurch United and Universities followed a similar pattern. The Rams went four-nil up in the opening half, with goals from Daniel MacLennan, Benji Lapslie, Alex Mort and Sanni Issa. Eddie Wilkinson came into the game off the bench in time to quickly put United 5 - 0 up, with MacLennan completing the score ten minutes before the end.
In a tight opening half between Ferrymead Bays and FC Twenty11, Will Pierce ensured Bays lead at the break when scoring in the 42nd minute. Four goals in five minutes ended any hopes that FC may have held early in the second half. Pierce completed his hat-trick with Alex Meaclem and Daniel Metherell scoring their opening goals of the season to see Bays advance comfortably 5 - 0.
Selwyn ended Burwoods hopes when winning 5 - 0. Just when it looked like New World Canterbury Premier League (CPL) leader Burwood would keep the Southern League side scoreless at the break, Jamie Carrodus found the back of the net in the 44th minute. Jack Allatt then doubled the lead with twenty to play, with the score blowing out late in the game with goals to Nikolas Fairley, Calum Murdoch and Darius Van Wyk.
Coastal Spirit had to work hard before getting up over CPL side Waimak, 3 - 1. A great strike from Mitchell Quigley put Waimak ahead in the 41st minute, with Coastal restoring parity when Aashish Rai scored deep into first-half added time. A double from Dominic McGarr in the 60th and 63rd put Coastal in front. However, they then had to survive a strong finish from Waimak after Coastal captain, Michael Hogan, pulled back an opponent just outside the penalty area, who was clearly in front of goal with just the keeper to beat.
In the CPL encounter between Halswell and Parklands, the game went into extra time before Parklands moved into the next round 2 - 1. After a somewhat uninspiring scoreless opening half, Andrew Walmsley opened the scoring just after the break to put Parklands ahead. Halswell finally put away one of their chances when Patrick Cameron scored just before the 90 minutes were up. In a hectic first period of extra time with saw no goals but six yellow cards issued. Danny Lingard ensured Parkland's first win of the season when scoring the winning goal in the 112th minute.
Up in Nelson, Suburbs were untroubled to knock out Richmond Athletic 4 - 0, with the goal being split evenly in each half. Jordan Yong scored a brace, with Noah Platt and Ross McPhie also finding the back of the net.
FC Nelson edged Tahuna 3 - 2. FC scored all their goals in the opening half to Van Roland Hlawnceu, Brandyn Pirere and Harrison MacFadyen, with Pedro Ivo Costa replying for Tahuna.
In the Football South region, Queens Park defeated Grants Braes 7 - 0, Otago University edged Wanaka 4 - 3 after extra time, Northern overrun Old Boys 13 - 2 and Roslyn Wakari knocked out Gore Wanderers 6 - 0. Dunedin City Royals, Green Island, Mosgiel and Queenstown all had byes into Round 2, which takes place over Queen's Birthday Weekend. New Zealand Football conducts the draw on Tuesday afternoon.

Plenty of Goals In the Kate Sheppard Cup
There were plenty of goals locally in Round 1 of the New Zealand Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup.
There were 11 goals in the tie between Cashmere Technical and Christchurch United, with extra time needed before Technical prevailed 7 - 4. United, who is unbeaten in the Canterbury Championship League, looked to be on track to cause the upset when leading Premier League side, Technical 4 - 2 at the half. Former Premier Golden Boot winner Rachel Brodie netted all of United's goals, one from the penalty spot, with Technical's goals going to Kate Guildford and Lily Fisher. Technical, who were down on numbers due to illness and injury, rallied after the break and pulled a goal back on the hour when captain Nicola Dominikovich scored. They left it late before Fisher equalised, with five minutes to play to send the game into extra time. A double from Jonelle Arthur in the first period of added time saw Technical take control, with Emma Kench making it safe when extending the margin by three goals with nine minutes to play.
Coastal Spirit SAS was untroubled to advance when accounting for Universities 6 - 0. A brace from Mel Cameron saw Coastal turn at the break in front, following a third early in the second half. Rebecca Lake extended the lead in the 63rd minute, which was quickly followed by another goal from Darsha Keogan before Lauren Dabner completed the scoring in added time.
Nomads were too strong for FC Twenty11 when winning 8 - 0. Dorothy Yek led the way with a first-half hat-trick after Rebecca Gillett had opened the scoring. Jorja Bushridge, Hannah Stothers and Emily Lambie also added goals before the break, with Lily Gerrard scoring the final goal in the second half.
In Nelson, Suburbs moved into the next round when accounting for Richmond Athletic 4 - 0. Libby Hayday-Smith opened the scoring midway into the first half and then added a second early in the second half before capping a fine game when scoring twice again in the final five minutes of play.
The results in the Football South saw Dunedin City Royals defeat Green Island 7 - 0. Otago University accounted for Queenstown 2 - 0 after extra time, with Northern advancing at the expense of Roslyn Wakari 5 - 0 and Mosgiel receiving a bye. Round 2 will take place at Queen's Birthday Weekend.
