CHATHAM CUP // Cashmere Technical and Nelson Suburbs Into Quarter Finals Of Chatham Cup

For the second successive year both Cashmere Technical and Nelson Suburbs advanced into the quarter-finals of the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup when they defeated their respective Dunedin rivals. Technical knocked-out Roslyn Wakari 2 - 0 and Suburbs edged Green Island 1 - 0.

Technical had to work hard to defeat Roslyn, who pushed the two-time cup holders all the way. Tom Stevens, the Roslyn keeper, showed his class turning a shot from Aaron Clapham away for a corner after ten minutes. Six minutes before the break Andy Tuckey put Technical ahead with a shot just inside the area.

After the break Roslyn's Tennessee Kinghorn had a shot blocked by Tech keeper Danny Knight, with Can Anderson also looking good for the Dunedin side. Late in the game, substitute Gary Ogilvie was clipped down in the area and from the resulting penalty Clapham sent Stevens the wrong way to give Technical breathing space.

Suburbs had the better of the opening half at Saxton Fields and took the lead after 20 minutes when Ryan Stewart got in behind the Green Island back line. His cross was met by Matt Tod-Smith whose shot was initially blocked by goalkeeper Stewart Catto but the rebound was tucked away.

The second half was more even with Suburbs appearing to lose their way. Green Island started to rack up yellow cards and ended the game with 10 men after a player received a second yellow card in the closing minutes of play. The quarter-final draw will now go nationwide and will be conducted by NZ Football on Tuesday.

Dunedin Technical Too Good For Coastal

Dunedin Technical knocked Coastal Spirit out of the national trophy for the second year on the trot in the NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard at Coastal's home track on Sunday. Technical took the lead early on in the unofficial South Island Final and proved too good for the former cup holders. Both sides went into the game unbeaten this season but missing several regular first team players.

Emily Morrison scored in the third minute with Kate Guildford then doubling the lead shortly after to put the Dunedin side in control. Cody Taylor then made the most of a mistake by the defence to bring the score back to 2 - 1 on the half hour mark.

Guildford bagged her second goal in the 57th minute with Ruby Anderson showing Technical's dominance with their final goal with fifteen minutes to play. Coastal even pushed age-group international defender, Rebecca Lake into the front line in the latter part of the second half but it made little difference.
