Win To FC In Qualifying League

FC Twenty11 continued on their winning way in the Mainland Premier Qualifying League when they defeated Universities 2 - 1, as Selwyn had the weekend off with the bye. FC now have 19 points, Selwyn 9 and Universities 3.

Universities took the lead early when Sam Howes scored to give the students hope but FC hit back with two goals in quick succession, the first to Ryan Nicholson and then to Jos Paul. The remainder of the game failed to produce additional goals with the win virtually ensuring FC's MPL status for the 2019 season with Selwyn and Universities set to battle it out to avoid the drop. Selwyn will now turn their attention to the Blackwell's Holden English Cup when the take on Coastal Spirit in a quarter-final clash on Tuesday evening.

Big Win For Waimak and Universities Dent Tech's Title Hopes

Waimak racked up the biggest win of the season in the Mainland Women's Premier when over running Halswell 10 - 0 and Universities all but ending Cashmere Technical's title hopes when winning 2 - 1. Coastal Spirit had the bye and now only need to win one of the last two games - both at home to Halswell and Universities to claim back to back titles and their eighth since 2008. Coastal have 22 points, Technical 20, Waimak 17, Universities 11 and Halswell 3, with Technical and Halswell yet to have their final bye of the season.

Waimak lead at the break by a three-goal margin, before cutting loose with seven more goals with the final five goals coming in the final 35 minutes. Jayda Stewart scored half the goals, the most by an individual this season to Macey Fraser claiming a hat-trick with Jaz Ball scoring twice. The result means Waimak could claim second place overall if they win their final two games against Universities and Technical.

Universities claimed back to back wins for the first time in three seasons when overcoming Technical. Holly Pascoe put the students in front when scoring after 18 minutes in what was the only goal of the half. After the break Frankie Morrow equalised for Technical with Ashleigh Leonard putting Universities back in front with 20 minutes to play.

Vital Win For Western In CCL

Western closed the gap at the top of the Canterbury Championship League to just two points when coming from a goal down to defeat leaders Halswell 2 - 1 at The Nest. Waimak continued their climb up the table when winning at home 4 - 2 over Burwood. In the final games of the round Christchurch United edged Parklands 2 - 1. Halswell have 28 points, Western now move to 26, with Waimak now in third place on goal difference over Parkland with both on 16. United are now on 15 with Burwood on 12.
