CHALLENGE SHIELD RULES

  • The Connetics Challenge Shield is contested in every competition league, round robin and crossover matches.

  • The shield will not be contested in playoffs and finals. 

  • The challengers must win the game to win the shield. e.g If the game results in a draw, the shield stays with the holders.

CHALLENGE SHIELD RULES

Boys Competition Format

  • Two pools of 7 (snake seeded on previous year). 

  • Play each team in the pool and a crossover game (7 weeks)

  • During pool play crossover games count for qualifying games and shield challenges. This means there are no BYE weeks.

  • At end of Round 7, the top four from each pool go to Premiership, bottom three in each pool go to Championship

  • 2 x 35 minute halves with maximum 10 minute halftime.

  • 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.

Premiership (8 teams)

  • Round robin league (7 weeks)

  • Top 4/Bottom 4 - Semis/Finals (2 Weeks)

  • Total 16 weeks

Championship (6 teams)

  • Round robin league (5 weeks)

  • Playoffs, Semis, Finals (3 weeks)

  • Total 15 weeks

Playing Dates 2023

  • Term 2
    ​​​​​​​- Wednesday 26 April through to Wednesday 28 June

  • No Games
    - Wednesday 5 July or Wednesday 12 July

  • Term 3
    - Wednesday 19 July through to Wednesday 9 August

  • Premiership Semis/Championship Finals
    - Wednesday 16 August

  • Premiership Finals
    - Wednesday 23 August

  • Winter Tournament Week
    - Monday 28 August - Friday 1 September

Girls Competition Format

  • 10 Team League, full round robin with playoffs and finals (12 playing weeks).

  • League phase consists of: 10 games (9 weeks). Each team plays every other team once.

  • Playoff phase consists of: 3 rounds where teams play across the Cup/Plate draw, culminating in finals.

  • 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss during the league phase.

  • 2 x 30 minute halves with maximum 5 minute halftime. Injury time to be played as normal.

  • Teams are allowed unlimited substitutions from 5 named substitutes on the bench.

  • Playoff games go straight to penalties if a draw at full time.


Playing Dates 2023

  • Round 1 – Wednesday 10th May through to Round 8 - Wednesday 28th June

  • No Games – Wednesday 5th and 12th July.

  • Catch Up Week (in case of postponements) – Wednesday 19th July

  • Round 9 - Wednesday 26th July

  • Playoffs (QF/SF) - Wednesday 2nd & 9th August (refer Appendix C)

  • Position Finals (3rd-10th) – Wednesday 16th August

  • Final (1st v 2nd) - Wednesday 23rd August (refer Appendix C)
